Devlog 2: Art Makeover
Hey again, everyone!
Just dropping in with another update on Mortumn Quest: Homecoming. Development has been moving along steadily, and I’ve been working on polishing up the game for the upcoming demo release—which I’m aiming to finish along with the Steam page by the end of this month! 🎉
🎨 Updated Art Style for NPCs
One of the biggest changes recently is a new art style for the NPC characters. I decided to give them a fresh look that better fits the spooky but grounded tone of the game. I think it helps bring the eerie little village to life while making each character feel more memorable and unique.

🧩 Easier Puzzles = Better Flow
I’ve also gone back and rebalanced the difficulty of the puzzles in the demo. Originally, some were pretty tough (maybe too tough 😅). But the more I thought about it, the more I realized: I want players to enjoy the story, not get stuck and frustrated. So now the puzzles are still meaningful, but more relaxed—something you can solve while staying immersed in the atmosphere and narrative.
🌾 More Southeast Asian Cultural Details
I’m also excited to say I’ve added even more Southeast Asian cultural elements into the game! From visuals to subtle traditions, I really want the world to feel rich, real, and rooted in something personal and unique. It’s been fun digging into that and weaving it deeper into the story.
😵💫 Struggles with Marketing
If I’m honest, one of the things I’m still figuring out is marketing. Making the game is one thing—but getting people to see it is another story entirely. I don’t have a solid strategy yet, but I’m learning bit by bit and hoping to improve along the way. (If anyone has tips, I’d love to hear them!)
Thanks again for reading and following along with this journey. I’ll be back soon with more updates—and hopefully a finished demo to share with you all very soon! 😊
